What is Kitahama Flea Market?
Kitahama Flea Market began in 2018 as a small event where stylists and creators connected to the organizers brought their own belongings and handmade work. Word spread about its distinctive selection and unexpected discoveries.
In 2020, the market moved from an underground gallery to an outdoor setting. As it continued to grow, Nakanoshima’s riverside scenery and historic architecture became part of the experience. By 2024, attendance had reached approximately 10,000 visitors per day.

The Joy of Not Knowing What You’ll Find
What makes Kitahama Flea Market different is its curation. The organizers do not hold an open call for vendors. Instead, they personally invite shops they admire, one by one.
The result is a gathering of small, independent shops and creative makers from across Osaka and beyond—businesses that normally operate in different neighborhoods, all together in one place.
You might find ceramics, sculptural objects, antique furniture, flowers, sweets, craft beer, coffee, textiles, art, clothing, babywear or apparel for dogs. There have been hands-on letterpress printing experiences and even an appearance by the All Japan Club Association, a group devoted to the unexpectedly fascinating world of wooden clubs.
The range is wonderfully unpredictable, yet the whole market has a distinct sensibility shaped by the organizers’ personal taste. You do not need a shopping list or a plan. Simply wander, meet the shopkeepers and see what catches your eye. That sense of discovery is what makes people return.

How to Enjoy the Market
Allow yourself plenty of time. Stop at a stall that looks interesting, ask the maker about a piece, and enjoy the story behind it. Between shops, look up at the red-brick Central Public Hall, the riverside scenery and Nakanoshima’s blend of old and new architecture. The setting is part of the experience.

How to Get There
The market is held around Nakanoshima Park in central Osaka. Convenient nearby stations include Naniwabashi Station (Keihan Nakanoshima Line), Yodoyabashi Station (Osaka Metro Midosuji Line / Keihan Main Line) and Kitahama Station (Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line / Keihan Main Line). Different activities take place across several areas, so check the event map for the exact stage or shop you want to visit.
